Each day, we'll escape the city and travel to a beautiful wild place with a decent swim hole.  The week will fly by with games, water-play, and the learning of basic natural history and wilderness survival skills.   After this camp, students will feel much more comfortable and secure outdoors, and way more knowledgeable than the average adult when it comes to surviving in the wild.

Topics include:
  • Survival priorities
  • Shelter
  • Potable water
  • Fire-making
  • Edible and medicinal plants
  • Aid-less navigation
  • Primitive hunting and trapping techniques.

OVERNIGHT PROGRAMS

West Virginia Survival Adventure
August 12 - 16, $475
Ages 10 - 17 (Limit of 8 students.)

In this class we will practice survival skills in a West Virginia wilderness area.  A nice campground with a lake will provide our base, from which we will venture into nearby wilderness with a river, streams and a diverse mix of forest.  We will spend the days exploring, practicing skills, fishing and enjoying the water.  Depending on class size and composition, we may pack our gear into an area and set up a primitive camp, or establish our main base at a campground and go on daily wanders.

Transportation will be provided from Alexandria, VA.  I also have a limited number of tents, sleeping bags, backpacks and other gear available.

Topics will include:
  • Survival shelter
  • Obtaining potable water
  • Fire
  • Useful plants
  • Navigation

So much adventure, so little time! Last year we camped at Big Bend Campground on a long weekend trip of great tubing, hiking, rock-climbing and swimming as well as an introduction to some basic camping and survival skills. This year's trip has an extra day, and I can't wait to get back.

Transportation will be provided from Alexandria, VA.  I also have a limited number of tents, sleeping bags, backpacks and other gear available.
