Documenting the day, in a fun way!
Each week a Natural Leader writes up a brief report about our day's activities and emails it to the instructor. The report is emailed out to parents.
For students that are not typing yet: you may send the instructor an image of handwritten text, or dictate to a computer or person who types for you.
Content:
The report can be just a few sentences, or a full page, but it should tell the reader about key activities and events of the day.
You are encouraged to write in a way that you enjoy writing, and to create a report that is fun to read.
Quick tips:
Use short paragraphs -- usually only 1 – 3 sentences each.
Short sentences are usually best.
Use active tense. Example: "We made a fire" is active. "A fire was made" is passive.
Have fun with it!
You are welcome to use humor, exaggeration, and/or elements of fantasy to make it a fun read!
For a good advanced example of this, see the Dodging Dragons student blog post here. Keep in mind that this was written by an avid writer, we don'd expect everyone to write such long or literary reports.

Media maker
This role is similar to being photographer. You will capture some moments from our day using screenshots, a short video, or collecting pictures from your classmates' projects. Be as creative as you can!
You might make a short video.
Or an infographic.
Or some memes.
Check out one student's effort below!

Here are a few notes on how the video above was created, from the authors:
All of this is included with windows or downloadable for free (the Xbox game bar in particular), so no need to buy any software!
- Use the xbox game bar to get video clips and screenshots. Once the app is installed, click windows button + G to pull up the bar, then there are menu buttons to capture images and videos during the meeting.
- Edit photos to crop (in windows photos app), trim videos to pull out highlights (also in windows photo app).
- Open a photo, click on edit menu, and it will give you an option to make a video with music.
- Drag all photos/video clips into the video project.
- Put them in the order you'd like down below.
- Video project will allow you to add text, music, and effects within the video.
- Then you publish the video and are ready to send.

NatureTonk song parody
A couple of enterprising student created this as an adventure report for her Natural Leaders class. Aolani wrote the lyrics, while the video was made by her sister at WaichiFilms.
It has a number of inside jokes/references that will be lost on most audiences. The beginning describes some shelters the group made in the woods and the group's mascot, a stuffed dog. And it also references a scary story that one of the students shared.
The group played a modified version of a game called "double ball" where the team names were "it" and "ice."
This song is a parody on "Down to the honkytonk," a song that celebrates exactly the decadent irresponsibility that Natural Leaders hopes to reverse. The original is a very catchy song that you might want to hear to better appreciate the parody, despite its unsavory message.
Our student's rendition is a nice bit of alchemy that represents exactly the kind of cultural shift we hope to bring about.
I hope you'll agree that the NatureTonk version is much, much better, and we'll hope to see you down at the NatureTonk!
