West Virginia Survival Adventure - Shots from my trip to scout out the location.
June 26, 2013
The family and I scouted out a location for my August survival class over the weekend. It was a beautiful place that should work great, and is only two hours from DC! Lots of wildlife, a very interesting mix of soft and hardwood trees, is loaded with blueberries and other native vegetation, and has interesting terrain. The forest is of varied age and thickness, and even included a large tract that had burned in recent years. I don't know if this was a controlled, accidental or natural burn, but the larger trees and shrubs were unscathed and low-bush blueberries carpeted the ground. The Native Americans and some settlers used to burn the woods regularly, and I bet this helps a bunch with ticks, among other things.
