Adventure report: making crayfish basket traps

On a recent October day in Falls Church...

We had an awesome day today! ​

We started out with a game of tail-tag, and then we learned how to play Black Widow. On our way to gather sticks and vines to make crawfish traps, we spotted a baby snake!

Mr. Nick said we should try to identify it using the picture below - see if you can find it here:

After we harvested the vines and gathered sticks, we had to peel the leaves off the vines to make nice, long, thin, pieces.

We separated into two groups; the boys, and the girls, with C as our student instructor.
Then we stuck the sticks into the ground in a tight circle, and wove the vines in and out.

Then we made a bridge so that the crawfish could crawl in. After we set them up, we waited to see if we caught anything.

We finished the day with a Russian version of kick-the-can. It was lots of fun!!
